How to Build a LinkedIn Profile That Recruiters Find

By Zyctra Team · · 6 min read

LinkedIn is one of the main places recruiters look for candidates. Most of them search by keywords, job titles and location, so a well-optimised profile can bring opportunities to you.

Photo and banner

  • A clear, recent headshot with good light and a plain background. Profiles with photos get far more views.
  • A simple banner related to your field — even a plain colour with your specialism is better than the default.

Headline: your most important line

Your headline appears in search results. Don't just write your job title; include the keywords recruiters search for.

  • Weak: "Student"
  • Strong: "Data Analyst | SQL, Python, Power BI | Turning sales data into decisions"

About section

Write in the first person, three to five short paragraphs:

  1. What you do and who you help
  2. Your key skills and specialisms (with keywords)
  3. Two or three achievements with numbers
  4. What you are looking for and how to contact you

Experience

Treat each role like a CV entry: two or three lines of context and bullet points with results. Add media — presentations, project links, articles — where you can.

Skills and endorsements

Add relevant skills (LinkedIn lets you list many) and pin your top three. Ask colleagues to endorse the ones that matter most.

Recommendations

Two or three recommendations from managers or clients are powerful social proof. Offer to write one in return.

Settings that matter

  • Set your location to where you want to work.
  • Turn on "Open to work" — choose whether it's visible to everyone or only recruiters.
  • Customise your public profile URL (linkedin.com/in/yourname).

Stay visible

Post or comment occasionally about your field: lessons learned, projects, industry news. Consistent, useful activity keeps you in front of recruiters and your network.
